Founded in 1956 as a Faculty of Philosophy focused on regional pedagogical training, UNIJUÍ (Universidade Regional do Noroeste do Estado do Rio Grande do Sul) has become a top-ranked university that offers onsite and distance undergraduate and graduate programs.

The non-profit university serves over fifty municipalities, elevating students’ technical skills and critical social awareness. In 2021, the school launched the Graduação Mais program to bring scholars closer to innovation via specialized training and projects. Students in the program work to solve real challenges in their municipalities, using innovative education to improve local labor markets. “Through our research and community outreach programs, we have an important role in developing consistent innovation ecosystems,” says Talita Cindrowski Mazzola, marketing coordinator for UNIJUÍ. Students of all levels that want to pursue entrepreneurship and innovation can bring their projects to the school’s incubator, Criatec Unijuí, or the “nursery of ideas.” The incubator also connects startups with undergrads, postgrads, and alumni hoping to join entrepreneurial ventures in the region.
