Founded in 2019, Meta Ventures is the corporate venture capital arm of Meta, a Brazilian digital transformation company that has been in the market for over thirty years. Established with the purpose of creating value through innovation, the company provides services, networking and seed investments for early startups from a diverse range of sectors, usually at the end of their validation or traction stages. To date, the venture capital has invested in six startups focusing on IoT, data management and intranet, AI and marketplace. “But we also developed business ourselves, turning ideas and products into new market solutions,” says Marcio Flôres, head of corporate innovation. Meta Ventures has built two different businesses concerning data governance for fraud prevention and utilities. “Around forty percent of treated water is often wasted in Brazil,” says Marcio. “For this reason, we built a business, Flowen, that can help track water leaks using an ultrasonic meter (IoTA) that accurately verifies consumption and allows the remote management of operations, such as monitoring and cutting off water flows.” 

Meta Ventures also works intermediating between startups and open markets, connecting innovative solutions and clients’ needs. It also provides services to international clients, mainly from the US and Canada. According to Marcio, the main market challenge for the foreseeable future is to boost innovation. “In Brazil, connections among universities, business ideas and the market are still weak,” he says. “Our main vision is to raise the maturity of startups, to make them grow at the same rate as the world’s greatest ecosystems and provide opportunities for Meta and our clients.” As an open innovation hub, Meta Ventures is supported by its parent company Meta, whose structure is composed of more than three thousand employees located in 350 cities and fourteen countries around the world.
