Getting Around

Transportation is a major issue in Lagos. The public transport system is over-stretched and uncomfortable, and those who can afford not to use it happily avoid it. Many expats choose to buy a vehicle or to use ride-hailing apps including Uber, Oga Taxi, Taxify and GigiCab. Walking isn’t recommended, as most roads lack sidewalks, and the lack of cycling infrastructure combined with reckless driving makes biking unsafe. Motorcycles are common and can be a good way to filter through congestion, but they are also risky due to careless drivers. When choosing where to live or set up an office, consider your daily commute – Lagos experiences serious gridlock that can leave you stuck in traffic for hours each day.
